Skiing

Our “local” ski station is Sol y Nieve in the sierra Nevada mountains of Granada.

This is the most southerly ski resort in Europe and it is equipped with fast, modern lifts and a huge array of bars, restaurants and equipment hire shops supplying everything from skis and snowboards to ski jackets.

If you leave Loma la Parra or La Majada Alta at 6 in the morning you can be coming down your first run before 10 am and continue enjoying the usually sunny resort until 5pm .

Depending upon snow conditions, Sol y Nieve is usually open from before Christmas until the end of April.

This is a great station for beginners and intermediates with a few black runs for the experts.

Best of all is the 1,000 metre vertical drop which you can ski in one go over sections of red, blue and green pistes, and it takes only 3 lifts to go back up again.

The top of the station is about 3,100 metres and the views over Granada are stunning. There is a bonus  surprise view to the south over the Mediterranean Sea towards Africa.

It is well worth a visit even in the summer as the drive up the mountain is quite spectacular.
